To Do

From 2009 48 Hour Film Project

Jump to: navigation, search

This is the Project's To Do list. We'll be abusing the hell out of this page come the weekend of the event. In the meantime, though, the focus is on our pre-production process. Here's a list of what we should get done before the event starts. If you see a task without someone's name next to it and you feel like volunteering, toss an email to our discussion list and let yourself be known!

Characters

Set

The idea here is that it might be fun to, like our mystery third character, let the environment get built on the fly while the script is being written. In order for this to work, though, I need to hear back from the modelers. Confirmed by JS

Rendering

  • Command-line FarmerJoe submission script - Bassam, Mark, Jeff
    • Weekend testing went well. It seems to work fine on Mark's farm. Still need testing on Jeff's farm. Documentation would also be helpful. --Fweeb 19:11, 13 July 2009 (UTC)
  • Library re-linking script (ResPower) - Bob
  • Library re-linking script (BlenderFabrik) - Bob
  • Test video codecs for sound team (we had codec issues last year... we need to make sure sound can see the video without doing extra work). - Thomas
    • Rendering from Blender with the H.264 presets (wrapping h.264 in an AVI file) with mp3 audio appears to work well. --Fweeb 08:03, 2 July 2009 (UTC)
      • Sadly MP3 doesn't seem to play with ProTools well, we should see if we can get AAC for audio working there Fweeb. --Seablade 21:25, 12 July 2009 (UTC)
        • After testing, we'll have to either split/convert the MP3 from the AVI file, or provide a separate WAV mixdown for ProTools. Both should be pretty easy. --Fweeb 19:07, 13 July 2009 (UTC)
  • Confirm that FFMPEG can perform the necessary pulldown conversion from 24p to 29.97i - Jason
    • FFMPEG can not do this unfortunately. It only does reverse telecine. Mencoder offers a solution (commands added to the misc directory in svn), but the resulting files don't play in QuickTime. Sadly, the only real solution seems to be to use Final Cut Pro. --Fweeb 08:03, 2 July 2009 (UTC)
    • Confirmed that FCP does the conversion smoothly from an AVI-raw source. --Fweeb 19:16, 6 July 2009 (UTC)
  • Upgrade both Animux farms to Blender 2.49a - Mark, Jeff
    • Seems to be up on Marks's farm. Still need it up on Jeff's farm. --Fweeb 19:11, 13 July 2009 (UTC)

Other Technological Hurdles

  • Test webcams and possibly Skype... not only can we get the chance to potentially communicate more clearly, but we'll also have a way to let the world watch on and we'll have some fun video footage for the credits. TinyChat it is, lets see how well it works;)
  • Address the audio Version Control/Bandwidth transfer issues from last year. Looking into bzr for a solution. - Thomas Looks like the sound team is primarily sticking to the SVN workflow for sake of ease. Primarily we are just cutting down dramatically on the amount of transfer we are using.

Personnel Reqiurements

  • Audio editor for Team Richmond (preferred knowledge w/ Ardour... but we'll take what we can get) - Althea to the rescue!
  • Additional recommendations? Probably a bit late for them now;)
